1. Overview
SoulPhone ("we", "our", "the App") is an AI companion that calls you at times you choose. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, and your rights over it.
2. Data we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID identifier. We don't receive your email address unless you choose to share it. If you use the App without signing in, we create an anonymous account tied to your device.
Name
The name you give during onboarding, used to personalize your conversations.
Conversation data
Your voice is transcribed in real time so the AI can respond. Transcripts and AI-generated summaries are stored so each conversation can build on the last.
Call recordings
Audio of your calls (your voice and the AI's) is recorded and kept for up to 30 days for quality and safety review, then deleted automatically.
Usage data
Call history, streaks, progress through your journey, and your scheduled call times.
Apple Health data (optional)
If you turn on the health setting in your Profile, we read sleep duration and stages, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, step count and mindful minutes.
Location (optional)
If you turn on the location setting in your Profile, we take a single GPS reading to work out your city and region. Your exact coordinates are never stored or sent to our servers; only the city name is kept.
Device information
A push token so we can ring your phone, your device's time zone, and the App version.
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist on soulphone.ai, we store your email address, the time you signed up, and how you found us (for example, a campaign link). We use it only to invite you and tell you about SoulPhone.
3. How we use your data
- To personalize your conversations and meditations
- To keep continuity between calls, so the AI remembers your story
- To place your scheduled calls
- To track your progress through your journey
- To keep conversations safe (see section 8)
- To improve the service through anonymized, aggregated analytics
4. Apple Health data
Health access is optional and off until you turn it on. When it's on, health data is used only to personalize your conversations. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with other users. The App also writes mindful sessions (calls and meditations) to Apple Health. You can turn health access off at any time in your Profile.
5. Location data
Location is optional and off until you turn it on. When it's on:
- We take a single GPS reading to find your city and region; exact coordinates never leave your device
- Only your city name (for example, "Austin, TX") is sent to our servers
- We use it for weather, seasons and travel awareness in conversation, fetching weather from the Open-Meteo service without sending any personal data
- It is refreshed at most once every 24 hours
- It is never sold or used for advertising
Turning location off clears the stored city from your device and profile.
6. Storage and security
Your data is stored on Google Cloud (Firestore and Cloud Storage), encrypted in transit and at rest. We use Firebase Authentication for sign-in and restrict access to your data to the systems that need it.
7. Service providers
We use these providers to run SoulPhone. Each processes data only to provide its part of the service, under its own privacy terms:
- Google Cloud and Firebase: hosting, database, storage, sign-in, analytics, and the Gemini AI models that power conversations
- Anthropic (via OpenRouter): a backup AI model used if the primary model is unavailable
- Deepgram: speech-to-text
- Cartesia: text-to-speech (the AI's voice)
- RevenueCat: subscription management
We do not sell your personal data.
8. Crisis and safety data
SoulPhone runs a self-harm prevention protocol in every conversation (see our Safety & Crisis Protocol). When it detects a crisis signal:
- The type and severity of the signal may be recorded on your profile, so later conversations can follow up with care
- We count how many crisis referrals were made, without any personal information, to meet California's reporting requirements for companion chatbots
- Crisis data is never sold, shared with third parties or used for advertising, and is deleted when you delete your account
We do not share crisis data with emergency services, therapists or anyone else, and we do not contact anyone on your behalf. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911.
9. Meditation and hypnotherapy data
For meditation we keep session details such as type, length and whether you finished. For hypnotherapy we also keep the category you chose, how deep the session felt to you, any reflection you write afterwards, and your answers to the safety questions (used only to decide whether the feature is suitable for you).
10. Voice data
- Your voice is sent to our servers and to our speech-to-text provider to be transcribed
- Call audio is kept for up to 30 days for quality and safety review, then deleted automatically
- We do not create or store voiceprints or any other biometric identifier from your voice
- The AI's default voice is a synthetic voice made, with her consent, from recordings of artist Jeannine Kaspar. Your voice is never used to create a voice
By using calls you consent to this processing. You can withdraw consent by stopping use and deleting your account.
11. How long we keep data
- Call audio: up to 30 days
- Conversation transcripts: 90 days, then removed automatically. Brief summaries and reflections stay while your account is active, so the AI can remember you
- Everything else: while your account is active
If you delete your account in your Profile, your personal data is removed from our active systems within 30 days. Backups may hold it for a limited time before they are overwritten. Anonymized, aggregated data may be kept to improve the service. You can clear your conversation history at any time in your Profile or by emailing us.
12. Download your data
Use "Download My Data" in your Profile to get a copy of your transcripts, assessments, health snapshots, call history and profile, in a machine-readable format.
13. Automated personalization
SoulPhone uses automated systems to choose your program stage, suggest practices and meditations, and write your morning themes and evening reflections from your recent conversations. These run without human review and never affect your access to the service or your legal rights.
14. Your rights
You can access, correct or delete your data; turn off health and location sharing; and turn off notifications in iOS Settings. Email [email protected] and we'll respond to verified requests within 45 days.
15. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you live in California you can ask us what personal information we've collected and why, ask us to delete or correct it, and limit our use of sensitive information. We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We use sensitive information (conversation content, health data) only to provide the service you asked for, and we won't treat you differently for using these rights.
Categories we collect: identifiers (Apple ID, name, email if you join the waitlist), activity (conversation transcripts, usage), audio (call recordings kept up to 30 days), health information (if enabled) and city-level location (if enabled).
16. Security incidents
If a breach compromises your personal information, we'll notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires, including within 72 hours where required.
17. Age
SoulPhone is for people 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 and will delete it if we learn we have. Parents or guardians who think their child has used SoulPhone should email us.
18. Changes
We'll tell you about material changes in the App or by other reasonable means at least 30 days before they take effect.
